The Golden State Warriors and star Kevin Durant agreed to a two-year, $53 million, ESPN reported Monday.
Durant has a player option for the second year of his contract and has a chance to join the astounding free-agent class next year. But that is not even the incredible part of the story.
Durant will earn $25 million in the first year of his deal, according to the Bay Area News Group. It is almost $10 million less than the $34 million max deal the Warriors could have offered.
The Warriors are the defending NBA champions for another year. Durant is the reigning NBA Finals MVP and the Warriors still have its core intact. It is a huge win for Golden State.
