The Tampa Bay Lightning are closing in on a deal with defenseman Dan Girardi, the Tampa Bay Times reported Friday.
Girardi is set to be bought of his contract with the New York Rangers, which would make him an unrestricted free agent. He would not be able to formally sign with the Lightning until Saturday morning.
The veteran has spent all of his 10-year NHL career with the Rangers. He has recorded 230 career points in 788 games.
