The Anaheim Ducks and defenseman Cam Fowler are near an agreement on a contract extension, the Orange County Register reported Saturday.

Fowler still has one year left on his current deal, but because of a string of strong seasons, it would behoove the Ducks to re-sign Fowler now before waiting to see whether he would test the free-agent waters in 2018.

He scored 11 goals and 39 points in 80 games last season with the Ducks.

Fowler would have to wait until Saturday morning to sign the reported extension.
