It is not everyday you see two managers from any team get into a bit of a scuffle during a game. On Friday night, it happened in Petco Park as the Los Angeles Dodgers were taking on the San Diego Padres.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and Padres manager Andy Green were ejected before the second inning ever got underway. The two were discussing Alex Wood‘s accusation that the Padres’ Jose Pirela was stealing signs.

Roberts said he took “exception” to Green’s “pointed” comments about one of the Dodgers’ players.

“There were some things Andy directed at our player,” Roberts said, per Dodger Blue. “At some point I took exception, thought it was excessive, and so I got emotional. As an opposing manager, to talk about the situation and agree or disagree with how the umpires handle it, is his opinion. When you make pointed comments about our player, I have a problem with it. That’s all I wanted to convey.”

Green said Wood threatened to hit Pirela, but Wood denied the accusation.

Roberts added after the game that he felt like the whole ordeal was over. I suppose we’ll see Saturday when the two teams meet again.

Los Angeles would go on to win the game 10-4.
