The Washington Capitals re-signed goalkeeper Pheonix Copley on Wednesday, the team announced.

The Capitals and Copley agreed to a two-year, $1.3 million extension. It appears the signing firmly cements Copley as the backup goalkeeper for Braden Holtby. Philipp Grubauer is a restricted free agent and Washington looks like are ready to let him walk.

Copley has only played two games in his NHL career, both with the St. Louis Blues. He won 11 times in 16 games with the AHL’s Hershey Bears last year.
