It has been a destructive Wednesday for the Los Angeles Clippers. The team traded Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets for a huge haul, but also got its bridge burned on the way out. The team now has to regather itself and focus on another departing asset — Blake Griffin.
According to ESPN, the Clippers’ attention will be focused on retaining Griffin in free agency.
Los Angeles can offer Griffin the most money in a max contract, five years and $30 million annually.
The two teams Los Angeles has to go against for Griffin are the Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets.
The Heat are a definitely threat to go get Griffin because of how much easier the path to the NBA Finals is than the Western Conference. As for the Nuggets, they have a young enough team that could lure Griffin into a nice situation.
The question really comes down to whether Griffin wants to stick around for a rebuild or if he thinks he and DeAndre Jordan and Patrick Beverley can make a run in the West.
