The Dallas Stars reportedly plan to buy out the last two years of goalkeeper Antti Niemi‘s contract.

The Dallas Morning News reported Monday that Niemi will be placed on waivers and it will be a $1.5 million cap hit against the Stars in 2017-18 and 2018-19.

The Stars’ idea of pairing Niemi with Kari Lehtonen, but it did not work out. Niemi recorded a 90 percent save percentage in 79 games. The Stars decided to sign Ben Bishop to a six-year, $30 million contract last month.

Lehtonen is expected to return.
