The Brooklyn Nets made a shrewd move a few days before the NBA Draft. The Nets agreed to acquire point guard D’Angelo Russell and center Timofey Mozgov from the Los Angeles Lakers for center Brook Lopez and the No. 27 pick of the draft, The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Tuesday.

The Nets and the Lakers, the worst teams in their respective conferences, help each other out a bit. The Nets take a salary dump in Mozgov and get a young guard to build around with Russell. It’s weird, though, the Lakers would dump Russell — who is going on his third year — in favor of supposedly Lonzo Ball.

Lopez was a big contract, but has been the centerpiece of the Nets for quiet some time. It will be weird to see him go, but the way the league is trekking toward there really is no use for him. It is a run-and-gun- league and the Nets are pivoting toward it.

The Lakers now have the opportunity to make a run at LeBron James and Paul George next season. Magic Johnson should send Sean Marks a fruit basket or something.
