Hockey is one of those weird sports where it is acceptable to throw things on the ice — hats, stuffed animals and even octopi in some arenas. However, one Nashville Predators fan is facing severe consequences for a hockey tradition — only he allegedly committed the act in the wrong arena.

Jacob Waddell is facing a disorderly conduct charge, CBS Pittsburgh reported Tuesday. He could face six years in prison if convicted, TMZ Sports reported.

What’s even more interesting is the story behind how Waddell even got the catfish into the PPG Paints Arena for Game 1 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

According to CBS Pittsburgh, Waddell brought the catfish with him from Nashville after Pittsburgh stores said they would not sell catfish to Predators fans who like to throw the fish onto the ice in Nashville.

Waddell vacuumed sealed the fish and placed it inside his compression shorts, the station reported When he got into the arena, he wrapped the catfish in a free T-shirt and towel and went to his seat. He allegedly tossed the fish at the 16:40 mark in the second period.

Obviously, Waddell’s possible jail time is serious. But when you get a seal of approval from Carrie Underwood, who is married to Predators captain Mike Fisher, then it was probably worth all the trouble.
