ESPN NFL insider John Clayton is the latest to be laid off by the worldwide leader.

Clayton had served as ESPN’s senior NFL writer for the last 23 years. He confirmed his departure on Twitter Wednesday.

The Sporting News first reported the layoff.

Clayton’s career began with covering the Pittsburgh Steelers of the 1970s for the Pittsburgh Press. He then served as the Seattle Seahawks beat writer for the Tacoma News Tribune. Later in his career, he was inducted into the writer’s wing of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The writer will continue to talk football on KIRO in Seattle — an ESPN-affiliated station.
