Driver Takuma Sato became the first Japanese driver to win the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, edging three-time winner Helio Castroneves in the final moments of the race.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling,” Sato said. “I can’t thank enough this team. Hopefully the crowd enjoyed it. With three laps to go I really didn’t know but I just knew I had to go for it.”

Sato’s only other victory came in the 2013 Grand Prix of Long Beach.
