Former NBA player and University of North Carolina standout Rashad McCants revealed to the Charlotte Observer on Wednesday that dating socialite Khloe Kardashian cost him millions of dollars and possibly his career.
McCants was linked to Kardashian in early 2009 before she went and married Lamar Odom. McCants said that move derailed his career.
“Without that situation in play, I’m at $60-70 million,” McCants said. “Easily.”
McCants was averaging 10 points per game through four seasons in Minnesota. But was traded to the Sacramento Kings and said after the trade the calls stopped coming. He had other stops in the NBA Developmental League and on the international circuit.
He said dating Kardashian was his biggest regret.
Kardashian was linked to James Harden after his great 2014-15 season. Harden told Sports Illustrated that the celebrity circus was not for him.
“I feel like it was for no reason. I wasn’t getting anything out of it except my name out there and my face out there, and I don’t need that,” he said. “I wasn’t uncomfortable, but it wasn’t me. I don’t need pictures of myself when I’m driving my car. Who cares? What shoes am I wearing? Who cares? Where am I eating? Who cares? It was unnecessary stuff that I think trickled down to my teammates. I had to eliminate that.”
