First baseman James Loney requested and received his release from the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old was playing for Triple-A Gwinnett since Thursday after the team learned that Freddie Freeman was going to miss around 10 weeks with a fractured wrist.

Loney’s request came after the Braves acquired Mat Adams from the St. Louis Cardinals over the weekend. He was named the starter Sunday.
