UFC champion Conor McGregor called out boxing champion Floyd Mayweather on social media Saturday. McGregor posed for a picture after an apparent sparring session preparing for a possible fight with Mayweather in the ring.
“Solid work today,” McGregor wrote on Twitter. “Sign your end Floyd or you are just a mouth.”
According to Fox Sports, UFC president Dana White is getting ready to sit down with Mayweather reps next week to get a deal done to fight McGregor in what promises to have big pay-per-view buys.
The report said the two main roadblocks are the split and the card beneath the mega fight. Mayweather received a large payout for his win over Manny Pacquiao in a fight that seems like ages ago.
The undercard was thought to be mixed with UFC fights, but it seems like negotiations on that end have tapered off.
“It would be boxing. It’s going to be a typical boxing match where it’s all about the main event and not the undercard. That’s boxing,” White said. “This won’t be a UFC event. It’s going to be a boxing event. So international is wide open, the slate is clear on our side to do whatever. I don’t know what obstacles or hurdles they have to jump over.
Whit will also have to battle with the possibility of losing McGregor for good should he score a nine-figure payout from the event. He downplayed the possibility, though.
“He says win, lose or draw, in the Mayweather fight, he wants to fight again before the end of the year,” White said.
