The Cleveland Browns released tight end Gary Barnidge on Friday, hours after taking tight end David Njoku out of Miami toward the end of the first round of the draft. NFL Network first reported the release.
Barnidge’s production tailed off dramatically since his breakout 2015 campaign. Barnidge seemed to be left out to dry during the Browns’ quarterback overhaul and now the team does not seem to have any use for him at all.
However, there is hope. Barnidge is still only 31 and could definitely latch on as a tight end somewhere before the start of training camp or even preseason.
He caught 55 balls for 612 yards and recorded two touchdown catches last season.
