You may not know it from looking at the team that is been put on the field, but the New York Yankees are in the middle of a rebuild. Despite that, Forbes listed the franchise as the most valuable MLB team in 2017.

The Yankees are worth $3.7 billion and are the second most-valuable franchise in all of sports, just beneath the Dallas Cowboys. Forbes noted that the Yankees generate the most revenue — $526 million.

Overall, the average baseball teams’ values have increased by 19 percent and $1.54 billion. The values have been driven by local television deals and the increased value of Major League Baseball Advanced Media, according to Forbes.

Baseball teams’ average values also rank second to the NFL and ahead of the top 20 soccer teams in the world, NBA and NHL.

It’s amazing to still see how people think baseball is dying. The valuations are only increasing and baseball is still one of the most profitable sports in the world. Though intention spans are increasingly becoming shorter, baseball is still surviving even with nine innings being played.
