The San Francisco Giants are giving outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. a fresh start. The two sides reportedly agreed to a minor league deal Saturday.

Fan Rag Sports reported that the deal was done. MLB.com reported that Upton and the Giants were going to sign a contract.

The Toronto Blue Jays released Upton at the end of spring training. He only batted .194 in 14 games.

The Giants hope Upton can provide some much-needed outfield depth and speed on the basepaths. Jarrett Parker is currently the Giants starting left fielder.
