Wichita State University will play sports in the American Athletic Conference starting in the 2017-18 season, the school announced Friday.
CBS Sports first reported the move.
All Wichita State sports will be moving to the conference. The Shockers do not have a football program. The school prides itself on its men’s basketball program. Head coach Gregg Marshall has averaged just over 30 wins per season since 2013.
“Now we won’t have to be perfect to make the NCAA Tournament or get a decent seed,” said one source close to the school told CBS Sports.
Athletic Director Darron Boatright said in a statement he was eager for the challenge of moving to the AAC.
