Georgetown hired Patrick Ewing as its men’s basketball head coach Monday. Ewing will replace John Thompson III who was fired after the season was over.
Ewing returns to his alma mater where he dominated and eventually became the No. 1 pick of the New York Knicks. He also helped lead the 1984 team to the NCAA national championship.
Ewing was previously an assistant coach with the Charlotte Hornets and had been widely speculated to get an NBA coaching gig sooner than later. That never materialized and he’s expected to leave the Hornets immediately, Yahoo Sports reported.
