The Chicago Bulls barely got by the Boston Celtics on Thursday night, winning 103-102. The game came down to the final shot and that’s when the referees took over the game.

Jimmy Butler was being guarded by Marcus Smart on the elbow. When Butler when up for a potential game-winning shot, Smart got a hand in Butler’s grill and forced him to miss the shot. The game seemed to be over — until the official blew the play dead and called a foul on Smart.

Replay shows it was bang-bang play. It’s a very controversial thing to do for an official to call a foul there with under one second to play. Referees almost never do that in any game at the professional level.

Butler would make the free throws, giving the Bulls the win. He insisted that Smart touched his elbow.
