The New York Mets named Noah Syndergaard its Opening Day starter on Thursday.
“Easiest (decision) I’ve made in a while,” manager Terry Collins told reporters.
Syndergaard has been the most dominant of the Mets pitchers. He had a 2.60 ERA in 183 2/3 innings in 2016. He also added 17 pounds of muscle of the weekend. And he’s only 24.
The Mets are going to rely on Syndergaard all season to continue his dominance. New York would also like everyone else in the rotation to stay moderately healthy.
