Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria is set to become the ambassador to France in President Donald Trump‘s administration, the New York Post reported Wednesday.
Trump’s Chief of Staff Reince Priebus reportedly “won signoffs” on Loria becoming the ambassador along with a slew of other administrative decisions. With that move all but official, Loria’s prospects to sell the franchise could sink.
The Miami Herald reported that Miami has been in talks to sell the team to a group led by Joshua Kushner, the brother of Ivanka Trump‘s husband Jared, and Joshua Meyer.
However, Meyer said in a statement to the New York Times that the deal may not happen now.
The Herald added that if the deal falls through, the Marlins could have a backup plan in a former MLB owner. But the report failed to say who the interested party is.
