Kansas City Royals right-handed pitcher Brian Flynn will miss the first eight weeks of the season recovering after a freak injury on his property.

Royals manage Ned Yost confirmed to ESPN that Flynn fell through the roof of his barn while working on it.

Flynn suffered a broken rib and three minor vertebrae fractures in his back, the team said.

Flynn is a vital reliever in the Royals’ bullpen. He recorded a 2.60 ERA in 35 games last season.
