The Tampa Bay Rays signed right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi to a one-year, $2 million deal, ESPN reported Sunday. The contract comes with a team option for 2018.

Eovaldi will be recovering from Tommy John surgery and isn’t expected to pitch in 2017. He need surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon and partially torn ulnar collateral ligament

He spent the last two seasons with the New York Yankees. Before his injury in 2016, he was 9-8 with a 4.76 ERA for New York.
