The Toronto Blue Jays and right-handed reliever Joe Smith agreed to a one-year deal on Saturday, Fox Sports reported.
The terms of the deal haven’t been released.
Smith is the second veteran reliever to join Toronto this offseason. The Blue Jays add him in an attempt to salvage the offseason, which some have seen as a failure after a couple of successful seasons.
Smith split time between the Los Angeles Angels and Chicago Cubs last season. He totaled a 3.46 ERA in 54 total games.
He’s proven himself to be a reliable reliever in the league and there are plenty of teams that could use his services. Toronto was lucky to get him and now have a pretty solid bullpen going into the 2017 season.
