The Kansas City Royals have expressed interest in free agent righty Doug Fister, the Boston Globe reported Saturday.

Fister is one of a bunch of starters who remain in the pot of free agents heading into spring training. The Royals have been looking for a replacement ever since the sudden death of Yordano Ventura.

The Seattle Mariners, Miami Marlins, San Diego Padres and Pittsburgh Pirates have all maintained interest in Fister.

Fister was 12-13 with a 4.64 ERA for the Houston Astros last season.
