USC quarterback Sam Darnold is the best player in college football and didn’t even need the Heisman Trophy nomination to prove it.
Darnold was given the Archie Griffin Award on Wednesday. It’s given to college football’s most valuable player. He’s the the first freshman to ever receive the award.
The 19-year-old threw 31 touchdown passes and recorded 3,086 passing yards in his first full season as a Trojans starter.
Other award winners include Deshaun Watson, Ezekiel Elliot and Jameis Winston.
It has been a whirlwind of a season for USC. Starting off 1-3 wasn’t the best way to kickoff the year, but once Darnold got into his groove the team really started to come together and it culminated into an incredible victory against Penn State at the Rose Bowl on Monday.
Is Darnold the best player in college football? That stats say yes, the Heisman says no.
But you better believe that he will be a preseason contender for the Heisman next season.
