A man accused of shooting and killing former USC running back Joe McKnight was arrested on a manslaughter charge, public records show.

The Advocate reported Tuesday that Ronald Gasser, 54, had been jailed, according to Jefferson Parish records. Gasser was released from police custody last week after the shooting while police further investigated.

Authorities believe the shooting was over a road rage incident that involved McKnight. Gasser sat by his car, apparently waiting for police, as bystanders worked in an attempt to revive McKnight.

Police are expected to have a press conference at 10 a.m. local time.
