The College Football Playoff selection committee picked their final four teams and USC — not surprisingly — was not one of the final four. The matchups will include Alabama vs. Washington and Clemson vs. Ohio State.

The Trojans instead will have a Rose Bowl berth against Big Ten champions Penn State on Jan. 2, 2017.

USC won their last game against Notre Dame soundly and needed plenty of help to even be considered for a Pac-12 Championship title game. That didn’t happen, but what helps is that USC beat Washington and Colorado already this year and are on an eight-game winning streak.

Those facts helped the Trojans slide into a perfect position in the Rose Bowl.

Penn State is coming off a huge comeback victory in the Big Ten title game against Wisconsin. The Nittany Lions might be feeling a bit dejected after being the first team out of the playoff. Revenge will certainly be on their mind.
