The Florida Panthers opened up their 2016-17 season with an incredible tribute to the late Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez, per NBC Sports.

The Panthers players wore No. 16 jerseys when they took the ice before their game against the New Jersey Devils. Fernandez made an impact on the team and it clearly showed Thursday night in Sunrise, Fla.

Florida also raised $35,000 for the Jose Fernandez Foundation.

It’s an incredible gesture coming from a team in a completely different sport.
