The New York Mets will not have Noah Syndergaard available to start against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday because he’s battling strep throat, according to MLB.com. Syndergaard has picked the worst time for him to get sick. He said he’s been “extremely under the weather.” Strep throat is a killer especially when you’re in the process of just getting over it. The Mets are in a fierce battle with the San Francisco Giants for the second National League Wildcard spot and can’t really deal with issues like this.

Sean Gilmartin will get a chance to start against the Phillies. New York is hoping that Syndergaard can start sometime Monday or Tuesday in the final full week of the season. Syndergaard has been the Mets’ best pitcher this season. He has a 13-9 record with a 2.63 ERA in 29 starts this season with 210 strikeouts.
