The New England Patriots are already thin at quarterback and really can’t afford to lose anyone else at this point. Jacoby Brissett was their third string quarterback and after a remarkable win against the Houston Texans Thursday night, Brissett could be out with a thumb injury that could cost him next week’s game. A source told the NFL Network Friday that Brissett has a sprained thumb, but it’s not a serious injury where he could miss significant time and possibly cost him next week’s game.
Though the NFL Network’s report downplays the severity of the injury, WEEI reported differently. The station said that Brissett has a torn thumb ligament that will require surgery. No matter how severe the injury actually is, it looks like New England will need at least one quarterback for next week’s game against the Buffalo Bills. We’ll probably know more as the week goes on, but for now start speculating as to who will start Week 4. Names like Josh Freeman, Ryan Lindley, Matt Flynn and Michael Vick have all been brought up.
