New York Mets right-handed pitching sensation Jacob deGrom will miss the rest of the season due to an elbow issue, the team announced Saturday.

Mets GM Sandy Alderson said deGrom will need surgery to repair the ulnar nerve in his elbow, according to the New York Daily News.

The announcement comes after it was announced deGrom would return to the rotation to face the Minnesota Twins Sunday. He threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Friday.

I think it’s something we knew would have to be taken care of after the season,” deGrom said. “But it looks like that’s it (for this year).”

DeGrom hasn’t pitched since Sept. 2
