No. 15 Houston is proving to be more than just some measly American Athletic Conference school. Saturday, the Cougar defeated No. 3 Oklahoma 33-23 in one of the first big shake ups of the college football seasons.

Houston quarterback Greg Ward Jr. threw for 321 yards and two touchdowns and was able to help the Cougars really turn on the pressure in the third quarterback and didn’t look back from there.

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield threw for 323 yards and two touchdowns as well. Sooners’ running back Samaje Perine rushed for just 31 yards on six carries. Bob Stoops said he had hurt his shoulder, but there was no structural damage.

The Sooners could never really get it going and that ended up being their downfall. A late six points was not enough for Oklahoma to gain any momentum.

Depending on how Houston plays from here on out, the loss puts Oklahoma into some serious trouble really early in the season.
