By the end of Tuesday, Michael Phelps had added two more gold medals to his grand total giving him 21. Phelps finished first in the 200-meter butterfly and the team finished first in the 2×400-meter freestyle relay.

He also gets three more attempts at winning gold. He has 25 medals in all and is clearly one of the greatest Olympians ever to hit the pool or represent the U.S. in history. Even Phelps has acknowledged the amount of gold that has hung around his neck over the least decade or so.

“That’s a lot of medals,” Phelps said. “It’s just insane.”
