The Toronto Blue Jays placed outfielder Jose Bautista on the 15-day disabled list Friday. Bautista injured his toe running into the outfield wall.

Officially, the team announced he was diagnosed with a big toe strain.

There’s no timetable for his return. Toronto hopes that the injury is nothing more than just a strain and not a fractured toe. In the middle of the hunt for the American League East, that wouldn’t be good in the dog days of summer.

Bautista is batting .230/.360/.455 with 12 homers and 41 RBI.

Toronto started Ezequiel Carrera in right field Friday night.
