The Minnesota Timberwolves are looking to trade for Chicago Bulls swingman Jimmy Butler, ESPN reported late Monday. Bringing Butler over would be a huge move for new head coach and team president Tom Thibodeau.
The Timberwolves are looking to trade their No. 5 pick in the NBA Draft, ESPN’s Chad Ford and Marc Stein reported. The Bulls aren’t looking to trade Butler, but are willing to hear potential offers for him.
One of the biggest clouds looming over a potential Butler deal is the $90 million remaining on his contract. Minnesota might have to move some money around to acquire Butler, but in doing so would create a potential playoff contender in the north.
The Boston Celtics are also said to be interested in Butler and hold the No. 3 pick in the draft, which could throw a wrench in the Timberwolves’ plan.
