Los Angeles Lakers forward Brandon Bass will opt out of his contract with the team when the season officially ends, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Wednesday. Bass had a $3.135 million player option.
Bass was mostly regulated to the bench in his only season with the Lakers after mostly starting for the Boston Celtics. The loaded Lakers frontcourt prohibited him from starting. He averaged 7.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
The Lakers tried to trade Bass over the winter, but no teams were biting, ESPN reported in January.
The Celtics might be the logical landing place for Bass since both parties are still interested in a return and Bass had said he wanted to retire as a member of the Celtics.
