USC football head coach Clay Helton didn’t name a quarterback Monday and decided to put off the decision to name a quarterback until the fall. The competition between Max Browne and Sam Darnold will continue through the summer.

“There were a number of open positions on our team this spring where players performed very well, including the quarterbacks,” Helton said in a statement, via the Los Angeles Times.

“I met with them today and told them that, based on how well they played, I have decided to continue the quarterback competition into Fall Camp.  I will wait until then to name a starter.”

It’s not going to be an easy choice for Helton. Both players had a good spring showcase. Browne threw for three touchdowns and Darnold threw for two. Both received high praise for their performances from Helton too.

As we inch closer to the Alabama game, the excitement and anticipation will mount. Right now, Browne has the edge because he’s next in line, but Darnold might look better on the field.
