It’s weird sometimes when one piece of major news sort of crosses over another piece of major news. That’s what happened when the Los Angeles Rams traded for the No. 1 pick.

Coach Jeff Fisher admitted in a press conference Thursday that the Rams and Tennessee Titans started talking about the trade for the No. 1 pick in February, according to Pro Football Talk.

The Rams and Titans also agreed to the trade Wednesday night, but didn’t officially complete the deal out of respect to Kobe Bryant‘s last game with the Los Angeles Lakers. Bryant dropped 60 points last night and the Rams didn’t want to take anything away from his special moment with the Lakers.

“Kobe deserved his night,” a Rams official told Adam Schefter of ESPN. “There was no reason for this trade to be announced on his night.”

As for the Rams, they are clearly angling for a quarterback with the No. 1 pick, whether it is Jared Goff or Carson Wentz remains unclear.
